Former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas was announced on Saturday (October 17, 2026) as Delhi Capitals’ fast-bowling coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL). Vaas joins a marquee coaching staff comprising head coach Sourav Ganguly and assistant coach Yuvraj Singh.

The 52-year-old, who played 111 Tests, 322 ODIs and six T20Is for the island nation in a stellar career, replaces Munaf Patel in the role. Vaas, who played the first three seasons of the IPL for Deccan Chargers, will have his first stint as coach in the lucrative T20 league. Vaas won the IPL title with Chargers in the 2009 edition.

Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra, meanwhile, is set to be named as Capitals’ spin-bowling coach. The 43-year-old has vast experience of the IPL, having played 162 matches for four franchises. His appointment is likely to be confirmed by DC later in the week.
