B-2 Spirit Bomber का विकास शीत युद्ध (Cold War) के दौरान शुरू हुआ था। 1970 के अंत तक सोवियत संघ के air defense systems इतने सघन हो गए थे कि पारंपरिक बमवर्षक विमानों के लिए लक्ष्यों तक पहुँचना मुश्किल हो गया था। इस चुनौती का समाधान ढूँढने के लिए अमेरिकी वायुसेना ने Advanced Technology Bomber (ATB) कार्यक्रम शुरू किया, जो एक अत्यंत गोपनीय परियोजना थी।

1981 में US Air Force ने Northrop को इस परियोजना का ठेका दिया। इस विमान का आकार और डिज़ाइन कई वर्षों तक वर्गीकृत (classified) रखा गया। पहली बार 22 नवंबर 1988 को कैलिफॉर्निया के पामडेल में स्थित Air Force Plant 42 से इसे हैंगर से बाहर निकालकर सार्वजनिक रूप से प्रदर्शित किया गया। इसकी पहली उड़ान 17 जुलाई 1989 को हुई और अप्रैल 1997 में यह आधिकारिक तौर पर अमेरिकी वायुसेना में शामिल हुआ।

B-2 Spirit Bomber का डिज़ाइन: उड़ता हुआ पंख

B-2 Spirit Bomber में पारंपरिक विमानों की तरह लंबा फ्यूज़लाज, अलग पूंछ या स्पष्ट पंख नहीं होते। बल्कि, पूरा विमान एक बड़े उड़ते हुए पंख जैसा दिखाई देता है। इस Flying Wing डिज़ाइन का मुख्य उद्देश्य रडार पर विमान की पहचान को कम करना है। विमान की सतह, कोण और आकार इस तरह बनाए गए हैं कि रडार तरंगें वापस कम लौटें, जिससे दुश्मन के रडार सिस्टम इसे आसानी से पकड़ नहीं पाते।

Stealth Technology: अदृश्य होने का राज़

B-2 की Stealth क्षमता केवल इसके आकार पर निर्भर नहीं है। इसमें Stealth Coating(CLICK HERE– For Full Article on Stealth Coating Technology) और Advanced Composite Materials का उपयोग किया गया है, जो रडार Reflection को और कम करते हैं।

इसके चार शक्तिशाली General Electric F118 इंजन पंखों के भीतर छिपे हुए हैं, ताकि बाहरी रूप साफ और कम परावर्तक बना रहे। हवा के प्रवेश और निकास के रास्ते भी सीधे नहीं हैं, जिससे इंजन की गर्मी और आवाज़ कम हो जाती है। यही कारण है कि B-2 केवल रडार से बचने में ही नहीं, बल्कि Thermal Signature को कम करने में भी सक्षम है।

उड़ान क्षमता और हथियार

B-2 Spirit की उड़ान क्षमता बेहद प्रभावशाली है। यह लंबी दूरी तक बिना बार-बार ईंधन भरे उड़ सकता है और भारी हथियार ले जा सकता है। इसकी Wingspan लगभग 172 Feet, Length 69 Feet और Height 17 Feet है। यह High-Subsonic Speed पर उड़ता है और लगभग 18,000 किलोग्राम तक का हथियार पेलोड ले जा सकता है।

इसे खास तौर पर ऐसे मिशनों के लिए डिज़ाइन किया गया है, जहाँ दुश्मन के Air Defense Systems को चकमा देकर महत्वपूर्ण लक्ष्यों पर सटीक हमला करना हो। यह Conventional Bombs के साथ-साथ Nuclear Weapons ले जाने में भी सक्षम है, जो इसे आधुनिक युद्ध में बहुत अहम बनाता है।

विकास और लागत

B-2 Spirit को विकसित करना बेहद महंगा और जटिल था। इसकी सीमित संख्या बनाई गई, क्योंकि इसकी तकनीक अत्यधिक संवेदनशील और उन्नत थी। प्रत्येक विमान की लागत अरबों डॉलर में बताई जाती है, जिससे यह दुनिया के सबसे महंगे विमानों में से एक बन गया। B-2 को बनाए रखना भी आसान नहीं है, क्योंकि Stealth Surface और Special Maintenance की नियमित जरूरत होती है। फिर भी, अमेरिकी सैन्य रणनीति में इसकी भूमिका आज भी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण मानी जाती है।
