Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (Last 52 Weeks)

H2H: Arthur Fery (WR 37) Marin Cilic (WR 80)
Tournament Previous Best N/A Semi-Final (2017)
1st Serve % 61.8 57.2
Service Games Won % 80 83.9
Break Points Saved % 58.1 60.7
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 50.6 50.3
Break Points Converted % 41.1 37.6

Fery looks to effective on return but will need to be smart against the efficient serving of Cilic.

Playing styles and prediction

Since some good results at the start of the season, Cilic has been in poor form and didn’t have the best grass court season. It was nine years ago when Cilic reached the semi-finals in Shanghai and the 38 year-old will look to roll back the years when he plays in suitable and favourable conditions in China.

Fery will use the slice to carve out angles and opportunities while being proactive on the second serve return. Meanwhile, Cilic will be aggressive on the first serve and will use the backhand to dictate play. This will be a tough test for Fery but if the Brit can maintain a high standard of play then he can pull off a big win in Asia.

Prediction: Fery in three sets.
