The card works great, it's just not what the box says it is.

After installation the device manager and the nvidia control panel reported that it is a GTX470, NOT a GTX580. I consulted with PNY's tech support and they confirmed that it is not a 580, that it was tampered with (labels and serial numbers removed) and boxed as a 580. Aside from the obvious lack of labels, the power configuration is different. My card has two six pin connectors, but the 580 has one six pin and one eight pin.

I bought this from Amazon, LLC, and not from a third party reseller–at least that's what my invoice says.

Gotta watch out for shenanigans like this.

Worked Great For 9 Months But Then Died

I bought this card nine months ago. With the exception of some minor driver issues that were corrected by an nVidia patch a few months later, it worked fine for all that time. I play a lot of games, so I used the card heavily during those nine months.

A few days ago, the card stopped working. The fan still spins, but the card no longer sends any data to the monitor. A PNY tech told me that my power supply is probably to blame rather than the card, but I replaced the card with a GTX 590, which works just fine. So it seems very likely to me that the card is dead.

PNY provides a one-year warranty, which is extended to "lifetime" if the card is registered within 90 days. I registered the card the day after I got it, so, no problem, right?

    Wrong.

It turns out that PNY will only honor its warranty if you return the defective card in its original packaging. I threw the original packaging away nine months ago, as soon as I saw that the card worked. I checked the warranty online, and, sure enough, there's a little clause at the very end stating: "Warranty coverage requires proof of purchase documentation evidencing the date of purchase (sales receipt or invoice) and original packaging." (By the way, it also says you pay for all shipping costs.)

So now I'm out $500 (the cost of the card when I bought it).

I'm giving the card two stars instead of one because I did get nine months of heavy use out of it, but I'm disappointed that it only lasted nine months, and I'm extremely upset about PNY's sneaky return policy.

I was replacing an older Nividia card for this one.
I have an Alienware pc and it has been nothing but trouble.
I fell for the case. Alienware is overrated junk.
My video card, motherboard and processor was overheating.
I had to put more fans in the case.
I was surprised that the heat came down a lot since i got this
new card. It helped the overall heat problems in the case.
My motherboard still gets hot, but things are much better since
    I purchased this card.
    It performs well.

After a lot of research i went for the Nvidia GTX 580, it was such a nice choice, the card is freaking quiet, i never hear it, i am able to play all games on max settings at 1920x1080p, the card is always cool, i dont know much what to say, the card is just flat out excellent.

The cons?, one might say the price but i believe it is totally worth it, saving to buy another one and put this beast on SLI

The Koolance 580 water block fits this 'reference design' perfectly. So if you are able to water cool, you can overclock this card and have a functional equivalent to two 460's in SLI without the cost or power consumption. In addition, this is the third PNY card I've bought in the last 6 years. They have all been EXCELLENT.
