Star Wars: Mikey Madison Reveals If She’d Return to Franchise After Exiting Starfighter
Mikey Madison opens up on returning to Star Wars. Just last year, she was offered a role widely described as a villainous one in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter. However, she turned down that gig to work on The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to The Social Network, instead.
During a recent red carpet interview with Variety, the Best Actress Oscar winner was asked why she chose Sorkin’s movie over a big-franchise blockbuster. Madison replied, “I would love to do, I’m totally open to doing, like, a franchise or a blockbuster movie one day. I think, to me, it’s really just about the character, the people I get to work with, my fellow actors. It’s also just about a feeling, too.”
Continuing, she emphasized what pulled her to the role of Frances Haugen, a data engineer for Facebook and whistleblower who leaks thousands of the company’s internal documents, in The Social Reckoning over Starfighter. The Anora actress said, “When I read this script, I was just really moved by the character’s moral integrity and her, like, kind of, pureness. In that sense, I’d never played a character like that before.”
Madison continued, “There was something about her, like emotional restraint as well, that was very compelling to me. I can’t say that I’ve ever done that either. And so, this just happened to be the next one I did, and I was excited to work with Aaron and Jeremy as well.”
Mikey Madison’s career continues to evolve beyond this Star Wars conversation
Madison hasn’t closed the door on big franchises, even though she passed on Starfighter. The actress’s career is moving forward rapidly, cemented by her historic Best Actress Oscar win for Anora. By choosing roles focusing on the characters and scripts she gets offered and the people she has to work with, Madison opted for high-profile dramatic and indie projects that leverage her critical acclaim.
Among her upcoming works is The Social Reckoning, which is slated for an October 9, 2026 release. She is also slated to star in Alejandro Landes’ Reptilia, has joined the ensemble cast for Elijah Bynum’s My Darling California, and is also in talks to lead A24’s upcoming The Masque of the Red Death.
