India made an impressive start to the final, with all three archers hitting 10s in the opening round. China responded with three 9s, giving India an early three-point advantage at 30-27. The Indian team maintained its lead in the following stages despite a scoring correction that changed one of its earlier 10s to a 9. India then restored a three-point advantage after another sequence of three 10s.

The contest remained competitive, but India held its nerve when it mattered most. In the final end, Chikitha, Prithika and Jyothi produced six successive 10-point shots. China managed 10, 9, 9, 10, 10 and 10, leaving India with a four-point victory and the gold medal. The 238-point total also equalled the existing world record.

India’s route to the final had been equally dramatic. In the semifinal, the defending champions faced South Korea and secured a narrow 234-233 victory. The Indian archers held their composure during the closing shots to edge the Korean team by a single point.

The morning brought mixed results elsewhere. Saptak Talwar made a strong start in men’s individual golf, sitting joint second at three-under par after nine holes, while Veer Ahlawat and Yuvraj Sandhu also began their campaigns. Shooter Neeru Dhanda, fresh from winning gold in the women’s trap individual event, returned to action in the mixed-team qualification, where India initially stood third.

In sepaktakraw, India’s women’s team lost 2-0 to Vietnam in its opening quadrant-group match. Meanwhile, South Korea secured bronze in women’s compound archery after Chinese Taipei missed with its final shot.

The archery triumph nevertheless provided India with a memorable opening to Day 11 and another major milestone in its Aichi-Nagoya campaign.
