AEW Men’s World Championship: Will Ospreay (c) vs. Jon Moxley
12 of 13
Last Time in Action: Will Ospreay alongside “Speedball” Mike Bailey defeated Claudio Castagnoli and Gabe Kidd, and Jon Moxley defeated Desmond Xavier (Dynamite, September 23).
Ospreay played with Mox early, testing with grappling and speed by slipping through his grip. He sent the Continental champion to the floor followed by a Springboard Crossbody.
Mox fired back after catching Ospreay in the corner with a back rake and bite followed by a DDT on the top turnbuckle. The impact broke open The Aerial Assassin.
The Continental champion kept up the pressure by elbowing the open wound of Ospreay and even wrenching at the fingers of The Aerial Assassin.
Mox looked like he enjoyed grinding down and brutalizing Ospreay, especially after a Gotch Piledriver leaving The Aerial Assassin holding his surgically repaired neck.
As Ospreay began to fight back, matching Mox’s technical offense and striking, the Continental champion grew frustrated.
They exchanged strikes center of the ring, leading into a Styles Clash attempt that Mox transitioned first into an Armbar then a Sleeper Hold.
Ospreay tried to fire back with a OsCutter, but Mox caught him and spiked him with a Headlock Suplex that led to referee Paul Turner showing concern for Ospreay’s neck.
Mox tried to Curb Stomp Ospreay, but The Aerial Assassin blocked with neck strength that shocked the Continental champion.
A Sit-Out Powerbomb into a Styles Clash then OsCutter would not keep Mox down. Ospreay teased a Hidden Blade that sent The Death Riders into defense mode.
Turner got knocked off the apron. Opreay hit a Hidden Blade, but with the ref out, Yuta got involved. Francesco Akira and “Speedball” Mike Bailey fought off Yuta, Daniel Garcia and Marina Shafir.
Pac took out Speedball, but Andrade El Ídolo knocked him down. Mox hit a Paradigm Shift while Ospreay hit a Hidden Blade.
Marina then blasted The Aerial Assassin with a briefcase for a slow near-fall. The Problem then attacked the referee, but The Brawling Birds arrived to take out Marina and Yuta.
Mox Curb Stomped Ospreay on the briefcase then blasted him with the case as referee Bryce Remsburg arrived. The Continental champion hit two Paradigm Shifts and a Death Rider, but Ospreay still kicked out.
Mox locked in the Bulldog Choke. Ospreay bit his way free followed by Hidden Blade and Storm Breaker for another close kick-out.
The Aerial Assassin ripped off his elbow pad, and Mox smiled as he turned into the Hidden Blade for the Ospreay victory.
Afterward, Mox handed the AEW Men’s World Championship to The Aerial Assassin and smacked his hand in respect.
This was an electric main event, carried by all of the story that built to this moment.
While there was plenty of interference and mess outside, it felt like the right blend for a Death Riders match. Ospreay was facing the same kind of threat as Hangman Adam Page did at All In 2025, overcoming it with his own group.
The Death Riders finally met their match in United Empire, and Ospreay proved himself to Mox as worthy of carrying AEW forward.
While Ospreay reached the mountaintop at All In 2026, this was the true arrival of The United Empire, who stand atop AEW even more powerfully now than The Death Riders did.
Ospreay and Mox are great together and should not leave this as their last chapter, but The Aerial Assassin should move on for now with plenty of fresh challengers.
The only exception would be a Death Riders vs. United Empire battle inside Blood & Guts, which should be intergender this year.
Ospreay def. Mox by pinfall to retain the AEW Men’s World Championship.
Notable Moments and Observations
- To start Ospreay’s entrance, a woman played the Assassin’s Creed theme followed by Edward Kenway (protagonist of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag) giving The Aerial Assassin a pep talk.
- This also set up for a quick commercial plug for the current price discount on Black Flag Resynced. Ospreay’s eternal AC connection is a fun dynamic.
- Ospreay burned the Death Riders flag before he headed out with Akira and Bailey. Mox was seconded by Marina, Garcia and Yuta.
- Marina quietly changed outfits for each match she managed.
- The Death Riders at ringside refused to look at Ospreay during his entrance.
- Mox licked the blood of Ospreay off his forearm to the disgust and amusement of the crowd.
- Andrade, Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor all signaled they are part of Ospreay’s United Empire after they helped The Aerial Assassin.
